Conversions

Fantasy

The son of a well-off merchant, Jacob is interested in combat and "adventure," but fully expects that he's going to settle down and take over the family business eventually - alter skills to fit.

Modern

Jacob's interested in RPGs, the SCA, and paintball - and in getting his business degree in college. Alter skills to fit.

Near Future

Jake's going to inherit Dad's position in some megacorp, but he'll have a little fun as a slumming cyberpreppie (and not a totally clueless one, either) first. Changes skills to fit, and add some cybernetic enhancements (interface jack, at a minimum). He'll probably need something like Reputation (Rich guy's kid, recognized rarely), too.

Jacob "Jake" Dexter is actually pretty typical of New Garavaran teenagers - he's bright, has a fair number of "hobby" skills, and wants to be a spacer when he grows up. The main difference is that his father is Keven Dexter, the founder, majority owner (by a fraction), and president of Dexter Shipping, a small-to-medium company that runs cargo between the major homeworlds - if he keeps his grades up, he could very well get hired onto one of those ships and work his way up from crewman to captain, to inheriting his dad's job someday.

Jacob's one flaw is that he's a little too fond of dreamgames - he's not addicted yet, but that's more because licensed dreamgame parlors are strict about how long a kid can stay in the games, and his parents aren't lax either.

His mother is the ornamental Jesibell Tash; Jake's got three younger siblings - one brother and two sisters. He was raised in his parents' house, with his mother in residence all the time (Dexter Sr. travels a bit), and a professional nanny to do most of the work. (Professional Child-Rearing is a respectible job on New Garavar.) He's still there, but is thinking about getting an apartment of his own sometime soon.

Typical Quotes:

"Aw, mom, c'mon, I haven't been in a dreamgame since, um . . . . Okay, I guess I need to wait another five hours."

"So I figured that we'd all go to the Founders' Park, go swimming - it's no problem, I traded my sports-car for mom's air-boat for the weekend. We can probably fit ten people in there, fifteen if we didn't have to worry about overloading the thrusters."
